Four Seasons in Summer Fields was Carey’s first symphony, completed at the age of eight. The work portrays the beautiful landscape and vivid school life of Summer Fields School in Oxford, as well as the occasional homesickness he felt as a young boarding pupil. Founded over 160 years ago, Summer Fields is a historic preparatory boarding school in the United Kingdom, home to a vibrant world of learning and music — and the place where Carey’s musical imagination first began to take shape.
The symphony opens in autumn, passes through a brief winter, blossoms into a lively spring, and concludes in the heat and brilliance of summer.
In 2023, the work was awarded the Silver Prize at the International Classical Music Composition Competition, making Carey the only child composer ever to receive an award in the history of the competition. In 2024, he performed the symphony with the Shenwan Symphony Orchestra at the Guangming Culture & Art Centre.
