Thirteen-year-old composer Carey Tan presents his original Symphony No. 2, The Cries of War with the Philharmonia Orchestra, conducted by Geoffrey Paterson, at Cadogan Hall, London.

The performance formed part of Brothers in Harmony: Where Classics Meet New Voices, the London finale of the 2026 international summer tour.

The Cries of War reflects on the human cost of conflict, moving from suffering and desolation towards reflection and the search for peace. Carey also joined the orchestra on marimba during the performance.

The work received a deeply emotional response from the audience, followed by a prolonged standing ovation. After the concert, many audience members remained at the venue to speak with Carey about the music and the ideas behind it. Some were visibly moved to tears as they shared how strongly the work had affected them.
